Immune system boosting smoothie

At the moment with everyone worrying about the Corona Virus. Instead of worrying which actually compromises immunity what we can do is work on being as healthy as possible. This smoothie is packed full of vegetables with tons of health benefits, easy to make, well balanced and not bitter. I’m usually not a fan of green smoothies, but this one actually tastes amazing.

  • 1/2 Banana
  • 100mls fresh orange juice
  • 2-3 sprigs Parsley
  • small bunch Kale (stem removed)
  • 10g Spinach
  • 1 tbsp Avocado
  • 1 tbsp Probiotic  Greek Yogurt
  • 4cm Cucumber (skinned)
  • 2 leaves Lettuce
  • 300mls 100% unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1 tsp of raw honey

Blend everything together. Add some ice if you prefer it cold and enjoy.

Health benefits

Bananas are a great source of minerals, antioxidants and carbohydrates. It is going to give a great sweetness to the recipe as well. They also improve digestive health, keeps blood pressure under control and reduces insulin sensitivity. The other element of sweetness we are getting from this smoothie is from the orange juice. It is also full of Vitamin C and other antioxidants. Which is why it’s better for you than just taking a Vitamin C supplement.

Avocados will give a great creamy texture they are full of healthy fats and contain 18 out of the 22 essential amino acids our body needs. Avocados are also a good source of Glutathione – a powerful antioxidant associated with immune system health. This is also great for cholesterol. It is also been found to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome.

Parsley contains lots of Vitamin K which is great for bone health. Parsley as well is very rich in antioxidants.

The main antioxidants in parsley are

  • flavonoids
  • carotenoids
  • vitamin C

It has strong antioxidant effects and plays an important role in supporting immune health and protecting against chronic disease.

Interestingly, dried parsley may be higher in antioxidants than fresh sprigs. In fact, one study found that the dried herb had 17 times more antioxidant content than its fresh counterpart. However, I have always used the fresh one in my smoothies. Spinach is also full of Vitamin K and antioxidants.

The smoothie also contains Kale. Who does not know that Kale is good for you? Kale is incredibly full of nutrients.

Then we add cucumber and lettuce which are full of electrolytes and keep you well hydrated and it is also good for your skin.

Honey suppresses coughs, boosts heart health and overall health and is soothing.

Finally, we have Simple greek yoghurt that is full of live cultures of probiotics and boosts your gut health.

This recipe has lots of veggies and it is not bitter. And its perfect for you to have every morning at the moment
