Many of my clients tell me that they do not like having breakfast in the morning. Mostly because they are not hungry in the morning and they would prefer not to have breakfast. Did you know this was a sign of high stress hormones as well as a blood sugar imbalance and a sluggish liver? This is why having a smoothie can be the perfect option.
It is definitely something we should be working to fix and not something we want to be happy about. We will have been fasting for 10 – 14 hours depending what time you had dinner the night before. A healthy liver can hold enough stored glucose for 8 – 10 hours until it starts tapping into other means of fuel.
What does not having an appetite in the morning mean?
If our appetite is non existent in the morning, we can assume we have been making our fuel using cortisol (stress hormone) for a few hours already. This all results in increased belly fat, slow metabolism, hormone dysfuntion, trouble losing weight and probably even bingeing in the evening.
Most people with this issue will also get up regularly between 2 and 4 am. This is no coincidence as this falls around 7 – 9 hours after dinner where the liver will be depleted of reserves and the body will start pumping stress hormone. So you need to be having certain things before bed like 2 hard boiled eggs and a cup of strawberries, or a cup of milk with honey. This will help your liver throughout the night and avoid a cortisol spike in the morning.
Furthermore, If you want to balance your hormones you need to have breakfast between 30 – 60 min of waking up and smoothies can be the easiest thing to start with.
So here is a smoothie recipe I love that is awesome for hormonal balance to take as breakfast.
