6 Reasons Why You Can’t Lose Weight

Have you been trying to lose weight for what seems like forever? You’ve tried everything but nothing seems to stick? We’ve all been there, and it’s super frustrating when you put in all the work, but don’t seem to be getting the results. Your relationship with your body is one of the longest, most complicated and beautiful journey’s you will experience. When you set your mind up to something and you have a difficult time achieving your goals, of course it’s discouraging. You aren’t alone in this. 


There is an overwhelming amount of tips on how to achieve weight loss online, because of this, it can be confusing on where to start, to know which tips will work best for you or which ones to avoid altogether. While it is a big part, losing weight is not all about your food intake amount. Today, we’re looking at possible reasons why you may be having a hard time shedding those pounds. 


You’ve been thinking about the numbers on the scale

What most people don’t realise is that mindset is half the game. When you become obsessed with what the scale says, you lose the main focus point. Dialling in on one detail, in the long run, can distract you from the overall goal.  


While numbers are important to set you on the right path, don’t make it rule your weight loss journey. When you become laser focused, you don’t enjoy the moment or the process of going through your weight journey. The purpose of your weight goals seems lost in translation because it becomes a burden and you are mindlessly fixated on the numbers. The key here is to shift your mindset to present moment thinking and ask yourself “What can I do today to meet my weight goals?” When you set a purpose and an intention, anything becomes enjoyable.


You don’t have a weight goal

Oftentimes, when people say that they want to lose weight, they don’t actually have a number in mind. But, when you lack this aspect, it puts a halt in your action plan, if you have a number goal in mind, it makes your journey much more achievable. Let’s say for example, you want to lose 10 pounds, when you add a number to it, this gives you an ultimate end goal. 


You are bound to have hard days, by having an end goal it creates something to look forward to. It serves as a light at the end of the tunnel of sorts, you know that there is something more than what the hard days hold. 


You snack on unhealthy food and drinks

We’ve all been there before, who doesn’t love a good treat every now and then? And every now and then is okay, as long as you take it in proportion. But the big thing here is that oftentimes, you take one cheat day and it becomes a cheat week, this can become a vicious cycle and one that is all too familiar. If you keep your main meals healthy but still snack on high calorie and high fat snacks and drinks throughout the day, you will struggle to lose weight. 


By snacking on unhealthy things, it can also create more hunger throughout the day. Your body is simply not getting the nutrients it needs. This will leave you feeling hungry, often only a short time after you’ve eaten. Cut down on your refined and processed foods, this will make a huge difference. 


You eat too much or too little in one sitting

Portion control is everything. Let’s say for example you eat a huge amount of food at lunch, as a result you aren’t hungry for dinner and you skip this meal. Fast forward to 11pm, and you’re starving. As a result, you find yourself eating a full meal and dessert at midnight. This is not only unhealthy for your digestive system but it also does not help in losing weight. 


If you eat just the right amount at your meals with a healthy, small snack in between, you’ll be much better off. The key is to eat enough so you don’t feel unsatisfied and hungry, but enough that you aren’t stuffed to the brim. This in between is the sweet spot you want to find yourself in. You need to make sure you’re still providing your body with enough energy to function throughout the day. You’re eating healthy, but lacking exercising

This is one of the most common reasons we see, you have a great diet but you aren’t losing the numbers. Look at your routine, are you incorporating exercise into your diet? Exercise and diet go hand in hand, think of them as partners in crime. You can’t have one without the other, or rather you shouldn’t have one without the other. 


Including exercise will not only help you sweat out the toxins in your body, but it will also provide an outlet to burn those extra calories and energy. Working out also provides a high level of endorphins which will improve your mood throughout the day! It’s a win, win. Your workouts don’t need to be super intense, do what you can handle and take it in doses like with everything else. 


You’re lacking good sleep

Getting enough sleep is essential for your body to properly function. It’s great for your skin, your brain and your weight! If you’re sleeping in until 4pm everyday, by default you’re skipping out on meals and denying your body the nutrients it needs. On the other hand, if you aren’t getting enough sleep, this may cause an increased craving for sweets, fats and carbs. 


Aim for eight hours of sleep each night to put your body on the right track for the next day! You want to have energy to function after all! This will not only help you achieve great skin and a healthier lifestyle, but it will also help with healthy weight maintenance. 


Anyone who has been on a weight loss journey can tell you that it’s hard. If it were easy, then everyone would be doing it. But the most important thing to remember, among all the tips and tricks is that your body is beautiful. You were given this vessel to take care of and provide, treat it with love and care. Yes, some days will be filled with anger and frustration, but don’t take it out on yourself. It’s normal to have setbacks and discouragement along the way. The key thing to remember is to keep going, no matter what. Everyone is on a different path, no one’s journey will look exactly like yours. Do what works for you, you’ve got this.
